TED: David Keith's Unusual Climate Change Idea

This is a pretty awesome TED Talk from Nov 2007. I finally watched it last night. Give it a go. He has some awesome points about geoengineering. We are already seeing geoengineering done on the micro-scale in Indonesia, creating clouds, changing the local climate, restoring rainforest, helping to aid in the prevention of wildfires (see Willie Smits on TED).

It's a short matter of time before controlling the weather is as everyday as predicting it.

Here's the TED Blurb:
"Environmental scientist David Keith proposes a cheap, effective, shocking means to address climate change: What if we injected a huge cloud of ash into the atmosphere to deflect sunlight and heat?" -- this is really just the lead-up to an amazing talk that goes way beyond that topic.

Space

On this day, July 20th 1969, 40 years ago, we set a human on the moon. We haven't been back since.

In today's TED talk, Peter Diamandis says it's our moral imperative to keep exploring space -- and he talks about how, with the X Prize and other incentives, we're going to do just that:

This TED talk was 4 years ago. Since then, Virgin Galactic has planned and begun construction of a Spaceport in New Mexico:

I Am the Destroyer of Worlds

16 July 1945, After the Trinity Atomic Test:

We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried, most people were silent. I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad-Gita. Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty and to impress him takes on his multi-armed form and says, "Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds." I suppose we all thought that, one way or another.

TED: Joachim de Posada - Eating Marshmellows

The research concept behind this is quite old but you've got to see the hilarious little girl in his experiment video. You'll know which one. Tell me if you piss yourself.
